A Passion for South Africa
We built Discover South Africa because the Rainbow Nation deserves better travel content. From the wildlife of Kruger to the winelands of the Western Cape, from the vibrant streets of Johannesburg to the dramatic coastline of the Garden Route -- South Africa is a country that rewards real exploration. This site is built on first-hand experience, honest recommendations, and a deep appreciation for everything that makes South Africa extraordinary.
Travel has always been my escape from the rat race — and honestly, I enjoy the planning almost as much as being there. Researching destinations, mapping routes, finding that perfect balance between adventure and relaxation. South Africa captured my imagination the first time I visited — the sheer diversity of landscapes, from Table Mountain to Kruger National Park, from the winelands to the Wild Coast. Every trip reveals something new.
I've explored Cape Town's vibrant neighborhoods, driven the Garden Route's dramatic coastline, gone on safari in Kruger and Hluhluwe, tasted world-class wines in Stellenbosch and Franschhoek, and surfed the waves at Durban's beaches. I've watched Johannesburg transform into a cultural powerhouse, and I've found hidden gems in smaller towns like Graaff-Reinet, Clarens, and Knysna.
I'm not a travel blogger. I work in healthcare IT. But South Africa keeps pulling me back, and I finally decided to put everything I've learned into something useful — a site with real local knowledge, honest prices, video content from the places I've actually been, and an AI trip planner that builds itineraries from years of real experience. It's the resource I wish I had before my first trip.
The Journey to South Africa
The first trip to South Africa was a revelation. Cape Town's Table Mountain, the V&A Waterfront, and the Cape Winelands. The diversity of landscapes, cultures, and experiences in a single country was staggering. The South Africa obsession begins.
Johannesburg, Kruger National Park, the Garden Route, Durban, Port Elizabeth. Each trip goes further from the tourist trail. Local connections open doors no guidebook can — township restaurants, hidden beaches, real prices. 40+ countries of travel, but South Africa is always a standout.
Scott starts documenting everything — video from safaris, coastal drives, food markets, and mountain hikes. The idea crystallizes: why does no South Africa travel site show you what these places actually look and feel like? The dream of a proper travel resource takes shape.
The site finally becomes real — with video content, an AI trip planner, and real on-the-ground experience powering every recommendation. Not a side hustle with recycled content. A real guide built by someone who genuinely loves this country.
The People Behind the Pages
Healthcare IT professional by day, South Africa travel enthusiast by every other waking moment. Based in Southern California. Multiple trips across the country — from the cosmopolitan energy of Johannesburg and Cape Town to the wild beauty of Kruger, the winelands of Stellenbosch and Franschhoek, and the coastal charm of the Garden Route. Enjoys the trip planning almost as much as the travel itself.
What You'll Never Find Here
We built this site because we got tired of South Africa travel content that's secretly a press trip recap or a sponsored hotel review dressed up as honest advice. Discover South Africa exists because we wanted the resource we wished we had before our first trip to the Rainbow Nation.

- Video guides for select destinations — see the waterfalls, streets, and beaches before you book
- An AI trip planner that builds custom itineraries with real prices, not hallucinated estimates
- Every price listed in both ZAR and USD, updated regularly based on what we actually pay
- Local connections across South Africa — real insights from people who live there, not a surface-level tourist take
